You will need a rear clip harness and a long line for this walk. A long line is a 15-30 foot leash, not a retractable leash, allowing the puppy to forage and roll around in the grass, smell some bushes, and have fun. There is no obedience training in this walk; that will defeat the point. You allow the puppy to begin making decisions outside instead of being constantly told what to do. The only time you would give commands is for the puppy's safety, for example, if they are picking up something terrible in their mouth.
I DO NOT recommend a retractable leash for the enrichment walk, because it can be unsafe and cumbersome. They also teach your puppy to pull, which is the opposite of what we want with loose leash walking.
